The 35th Annual Alberta Film & Television Awards, celebrating excellence and outstanding achievement in Albertan film, television and new media, were handed out on May 2, 2009 at a gala industry event held at the Northlands Agricom in Edmonton. The evening was hosted by Jill Belland of Citytv Calgary and CBC Edmonton’s Mark Connolly. The statuette, known as the Rosie, was awarded in 22 Class and 30 Craft categories.
This year the production taking the most number of Rosies was the National Film Board of Canada's "The Real Place," which garnered 6 awards, including Best Short. On the strength of this production the Edmonton-based studio of the National Film Board was the company or organization winning the most Rosies overall, with a total of 7, narrowly eclipsing Calgary-based Seven/24 Films, which won a total of 6 Rosies. In order to qualify for an Alberta Film & Television Award a production must be at least co-produced by an Alberta production company. For any craftsperson to be eligible he or she must have been a resident of Alberta for the 2008 calendar year. See the complete list of Rosie Award winners. Read more Alberta media awards...

They had to be flash fiction -- writing that tells a great story in the fewest words possible. Four Edmonton writers stepped up to the challenge.
