Marilyn was well prepared, passionate, knowledgeable, organized and professional

As Executive Director of the Society for Safe and Caring Schools & Communities, I contracted Marilyn Jones for media training for our staff in November of 2011. We contacted her based on a reference given from a previously satisfied client of hers.  Marilyn was able to take away the “fear” we had of dealing with media as we practiced developing and delivering key messages, and interviewing techniques to help us always get back to the important ‘key message’. In addition to the training being informative, it was actually fun! We found Marilyn well prepared, passionate, knowledgeable, organized and professional. She had researched our organization so was able to tailor the training to successfully meet our needs. Since our media training session,  our organization has utilized Marilyn’s skills to help us develop PSA’s and videos that continue to help youth and adults prevent bullying, and she continues to work with us on our social marketing plan. I would not hesitate recommending Marilyn for media training and/or social marketing projects. She is an exceptionally talented women and in addition to bringing value to your organization, it will be an experience you will not soon forget.

A great grounding in the development of a company blog

As a result of the things I learned at the Blogging for Business Workshop I am better prepared to have an intelligent discussion on the development and launch of our company blog.

I'm far less intimidated by our Wordpress website

I found the session very informative and most importantly I came away feeling far less intimidated by our Wordpress website. I appreciated the understanding that to learn one must do it hands on and not just watch someone else do it. Kinesthetic learning is a very important approach for many newcomers to the tech world.

A very positive experience

We really enjoyed the half day social media training session you gave at our offices on October 19. It was like having our own marketing consultant for three hours. You gave us good tips, helped focus our efforts and offered great ideas for us to pursue. It was a very positive experience! Thank you.

My subscription to mediainalberta.ca has helped me save time and focus my efforts

I cannot say enough about how helpful my subscription to the Alberta Media Directory has been. It's been a great investment. I use it all the time. The directory helps me target the media outlets and the reporters most interested in whatever message I am trying to send. I don't have to go hunting for their names, email addresses or contact information. All the media in Alberta are there. I can spend my time following up on media releases I send out and actually contact them instead of trying to keep a media list up-to-date so I can figure out who to send them to. If I have any questions about the media in Alberta, I take one of Marilyn's workshops. I took one today on giving interviews to the media. Over the years, I have taken three of her workshops and plan to take some more. We get a lot more media coverage since I started using her services. It's helped focus my efforts and given me another pair of hands.

Marilyn helps us nonprofit organizations climb learning curves fast

Marilyn keeps her eye on the moving target of social media and she connects the dots well for non-profits. We need to participate, but often we can't find time in our crowded days to climb the learning curves. The Linked-In workshop was just one example of how Marilyn gives a quick overview and enough information on the complexities of using social media to kick-start our use down here on the ground. She helps bridge the gap between constantly evolving 'geek speak' and last year's trendy phrases. She helps us keep up.

Now I understand better how LinkedIn works

I really enjoyed the workshop. Now I understand better how LinkedIn works and what to do with the many invitations I get sent from friends and colleagues asking me to join. After the workshop, I was able to encourage my two sons to join LinkedIn to promote themselves and their small business operating out of a business incubator. Good presentation. Helpful to me and to others.

The workshop was helpful in learning about social media tools and technologies along with which ones

The workshop was helpful in learning about social media tools and technologies along with which ones to use and why. I liked how you emphasized that communication tools are best used strategically with planning, resources, messaging and objectives in mind. We have a small staff and a large community service to run for youth groups. We don't have time for a steep learning curve only to find out it's not the right communications tool or the right way to use the tool. I realize that I don't need to know everything but I do need to know which communications tool and tactic to use for what I want to say and to whom. Your workshop helped me decide that LinkedIn is the strategic tool for me to use for what I need to do and that Facebook is the better strategic tool to connect with our members. I realize how important it is to have a cohesive social media strategy and set policies and practices in place before you dive in. I am working towards this objective. I'm happy you have decided to hold the Strategic Social Media Communications workshops in October at our Centre. I'll not have far to go to attend. I look forward to learning more about creating the plan that will guide our social media activities for the Centre. Good presentation. Thank you!

Marilyn packed a lot of useful information into an hour and a half

I really enjoyed the "Linked-In" workshop.  It was a great introduction to what the network is and how I might use it my own business.  Marilyn packed a lot of useful information into an hour and a half.  She's a great speaker and really knows her stuff.  I'm looking forward to an advanced Linked-In workshop next time around so I can learn even more about the network.

I was so happy to discover this Alberta media service

After searching for information about the media in Alberta, I almost fainted when I came across www.mediainalberta.ca. Not only do I now have access to a large, informative and up-to-date list of media outlets and reporters in Alberta, Marilyn has been generous with her time and advice in suggesting ways I could inform the public about this new and exciting entrepreneurship program designed especially for immigrant business men and women in Alberta. It made it possible for me to spend my time on other important things. The cost of the subscription is already money well spent and I have only been a subscriber just over a month. I have eleven more months of support to look foward to!

I have not been able to stop thinking about what I learned

For the past year or two I have been wondering about doing something about marketing for Delsur Productions. One of the people I had interviewed for a project we are working in for OMNI TV said, "well if your wondering about marketing you have to talk to my friend Marilyn Jones" I have to say she was right! It has been over two weeks now since our consultation and I have not been able to stop thinking about how important the information was that she shared.  I have been leary about throwing ourselves out there but Marilyn put it into a language that I not only could understand but she made it fun and interesting. I never realized that marketing could start before you even finish your script. It was a pleasure seeing another artist work so hard at making our art even better. Seeing yet another important layer of the film business unfold in the hands of a true professional made me feel great about choosing her. I realized the value of a well thought out plan and ended up with some creative, inexpensive and easy to implement marketing ideas I never would have considered. Thanks Marilyn!

An expert in the social media field

Marilyn,

I am writing from Red Deer College. We are working on the Spring issue of our alumni magazine (Notebook). Our cover story is (working title) Web 2.0 - Explained. After attending one of your workshops through the Editors Association of Canada, I thought of you immediately. Would we be able to interview you as an expert in the field?

Alberta Media Directory was one of the first thing I purchased in my new job

As a previous subscriber to the Alberta Media Directory (www.mediainalberta.ca), I found it most helpful in my media relations efforts. As soon as I started a new job, a subscription to the directory was one of the first things I purchased.

Marilyn knows a great deal about media relations in Alberta

Marilyn Jones knows a great deal about media relations in Alberta. She also understands communications marketing and has much depth in the field--especially online. It's for these reasons that we decided to purchase a three month Full Service Subscription for Well and Wise Online to mediainalberta.ca. We signed up in December 2010 in order to promote the launch of Well and Wise Online Internet TV Network. Our plan was to send out three releases in the first month of our subscription to supplement our own social media/SEO engine. After each release, we monitored the response we received from the media, online and in social media networks and were delighted at the comprehensive results! So delighted we upgraded our subscription from three months to a year so we could have five more media releases sent out throughout the year.

The new Media in Alberta directory is visually attractive and easy to use

Thanks for the quick tour of the new Media in Alberta website. As a brand new subscriber, I find the website visually attractive, easy to navigate and, most critically, easy to use. I also like the philosophy underlaying the site -- that as subscribers we can all help each other by keeping the database up-to-date.

Your interactive option was a great experience!

This experience not only allowed me to have input in where my release went, but it was easy and fun to use. Marilyn takes you through the process like a professional and really shows her expertise in the field through her knowledge of, not only individual media networks, but also individual contacts at each one. Through the advancements of technology, I was able to follow along the process of sending out the release virtually and now with the new Newsrooms site, I can link the media release directly to our website. It is clear to see why Media Mag has one of the largest media directories and best reputations in Alberta! We love being able to provide this outstanding service for our clients. Thank you!
